Monumental

Jigging around on the pavement of Princess St trying to get the lines right on this one took a few minutes but it turned out alright.

Had I done as I thought I might and take my flash and new home made snoot with me then I might have got a bit more light on to Sir Walter but I live and learn…  I am still yet to get to grips with using a flash whilst looking into direct winter sunlight.

Shaking Up Lighting

So now I am trying to get more aquainted with my flash gun and attempting to get to know the settings and strategies as well as possible.

The majority of my photography is portraiture what with my work being all about people and my family life… well that’s about people too!  It is exciting and intriguing therefore, to step outside this and try to be methodical and thoughtful as opposed to snapping away and hoping for the best.

I am hoping that if I get a better understanding of flash in this context that it will help my portraiture in low light as I am frequently battling with dark bars with bright gantrys and subjects stood in front of them.

Howdya like them apples?

Today we harvested what we could from the cooking apple tree in our back garden. It’s not like the one in next door’s garden which resembles a cricket ball tree with swags of deep red fruit weighing down the branches. No, our apples are “rustic”… Made for stewing not viewing.

Innes was up the tree like a flash and lobbed down a couple of buckets full

Linn Park – Glasgow

A walk in Linn Park and the first decent pictures Ive been able to take with my Blackberry.

I’ll not be making a habit of it though as it is not a great camera.

I have been inspired by my aunt to get on Blipfoto.com and one of these is also the subject of my first blip… click here to find my profile

Mussel(burgh) Beach

Went for a walk down Mussleburgh Promenade today with ES, DF, LMcL and the family…  fun was had in the play park as usual!  Ive got hundreds of playground shots of the kids from the last 7 years and every time I go I don’t think I need any more.  Looking back though, they are all different and the way the kids interract and play has changed dramatically from the days of following them around making sure they didnt hurt themselves.

More from Mr Jack

Edinburgh this time…  Outside (ish)  and much closer to the action so needed to use my trusty Sigma 10-22mm.

Not the same DOF to play with as it’s max is 4.0 but the closeness and distorted views made up for it methinks.

More sharing drinks today with a host of teapots etc on show, along with a japanese ice saw, a thermos, crystal glassware galore and only one winner – Grant Neave of Montieths.

So it is cocktail competition season once again… Jack Daniels started their search for their champion today at the Spaniard in Belfast and I was volunteer photographer and judge. As I type the result has not been announced but below are some of the pics I took… Great lighting in the Spaniard!!!
